Bridesmaid Dresses – selecting the right one and how

Updated: Apr 4, 2020

While we all know the bride’s dress is one of the most important pieces of the puzzle when planning a wedding, we also know her day is nothing without her "lucky stars" called bridesmaids standing by her side. This means, their dresses are key in complimenting the bride. Think of the photos on your wedding day. Most will include ceremony photos and this is where finding the perfect fit will come in most. You will thank yourself later for putting so much of an emphasis on your bridesmaids just as you did for yourself. There are a few things to consider when deciding so we have outlined the top 3 things to look out for below:

1. But first, the bride – You want to make sure the ensemble you go with accompanies your style. If you are going with a high-end dress, perhaps a cocktail style dress for your bridesmaids will bring that extra modern look. A boho lace wedding dress would look stunning having your girls wear an off the shoulder dress with a more free-flow vibe in their look. No matter the design, make sure whichever direction you go your dress is complimented and the pick doesn’t look like night and day. Remember, you as the bride will shine brighter than ever so don’t let that interfere with your decision making.

2. Flattering is flattering: The lucky stars on your side have been with you through life and you share a special bond with each of them. That is why they have been selected. You know their likes and dislikes, their insecurities, what colors they like and what compliments each of them. Choose wisely for them even if that means mixing up styles to meet sizes

3. Reason your Season: Keep in mind of the seasons when selecting your bridesmaid’s dresses. Are you getting married in Winter or Fall? You may want to consider dresses with a heavier material such as velvet or a dress with sleeves. Colors such as burgundy, olive and mustard are a fall through winter favorite. If you are getting married during Spring or Summer, beat the heat and incorporate materials like linen, cotton, silk and even lace. Color is a beautiful thing to incorporate and now would be the time to play around with some color for your bridesmaids! Soft pinks to hot pinks, yellow, ivory, blush and all the pastels make for a most playful refreshing look during the warm seasons.

In summary, really think about your bridesmaids as a part of you. If the dress you have selected brings out the most beauty inside each of them, it will reflect the same way on you. Stars twinkle and the moon shines. These two elements compliment one another perfectly and you wouldn't have a night sky without both pieces playing their part.
