Bridal dress silhouettes

Updated: Jun 8

With all that comes with planning a wedding, one of the most pivotal is that special day you try on your wedding gown. This marquee event on your calendar is like the first right of passage to getting married. Reality truly sets in when you step out of the car, look up and find yourself standing in front of the bridal store. There is something about feeling every inch of material as you slip on dress after dress. It’s a moment to be cherished.

Which is why doing your homework ahead of time will make it a treasured experience rather than a stressful ordeal. The best way to narrow down your dress silhouette (style) is to first know your body type. You may think you love a specific fit you saw in a magazine, but that fit may require so many alterations that by the time it’s all done, the dress doesn’t even look like the original. Why not have the best of both worlds? A dress you love with a fit made perfectly for you. For example, a ‘mermaid’ silhouette is mostly form-fitted and hugs you from your chest down to your knees then finishes with a beautiful flow to the floor leading into your train. Think back to Kim Kardashian’s wedding to Kanye West to get a clear picture. If you prefer a conservative and regal look, then the A-line silhouette will be ideal for you. The A-Line design is known for its graceful and timeless fit. You will find this style for most royal weddings including the latest of Meghan Markle to Prince Harry. Once you choose your silhouette, most of these dresses can be made in different materials (lace, satin, silk, etc.) Study and choose your top 3 silhouettes before going in to try on your dresses. By doing this, you are eliminating the worry of “what do I do now” and allowing your dream to continue in the real world, stress free.
